Little Heroes ASD Support Group – Christmas Grotto 2022

This year, we planned our 9th Little Heroes Christmas Grotto Experience for the families we support. Each year, our grotto experience has grown and grown, starting in a garden and this year taking on the entire circumference of Wellbeing Garons cricket pitch!

We welcomed over 200 people through the gates, and there were plenty of smiles all around. With a few happy tears as parents had new experiences that they had longed for, Christmas wishes were truly answered for many.

The first stop on our grotto experience was ‘Santa Letter Writing’. The families were given a chance to sit and write a letter to Santa together, of which they posted in the magical postbox. From here, the families passed Santa’s sleigh and met some of our elves who helped them to decorate their own melted-snowman biscuits! We loved seeing how creative the children got, with lots of colour variations and added decorations for an extra touch. From here, it was on to the score-board house AKA Santa’s workshop. There were a variety of different crafts in here for the families to enjoy – reindeer food making, paper chain decorations and hanging decoration decorating. Every family had the opportunity to decorate their own family Christmas plaque. Last but not least, it was time for the families to meet the big man himself!

Welcomed with a flurry of snow and some friendly faces, our families visited Santa in his grotto. Santa and his elves greeted families, took photos and even gave out early Christmas presents!

This is just a snap shot of the fun had by all, there were extra fun in the form of Elf Trails, Community Christmas Tree Trails, amazing light displays, a therapy pony, traditional games, fitness skills, the traditional park and hot food and drinks.

All of the families left feeling positive and festive, with big smiles on their faces. For some, the idea of meeting Santa can be quite overwhelming – so it was important for us to offer an experience of which could cater to all needs. As always, we review the events after the day and will look at extra opportunities to make it even more special for all next year. If you have any ideas please share with us.

A massive thank you to all involved in the day including the physical presence and preparation from:
